About us

Kiplin Hall and Gardens is located in the heart of rural North Yorkshire, between Richmond and Northallerton. The estate contains an intriguing Jacobean historic house, which was built in the 1620s for George Calvert, Secretary of State to James I and founder of the US state of Maryland. It is surrounded by 90 acres of formal gardens, woods, lakes and fields.  A member of the Historic Houses Association and Accredited museum, the house and gardens are open to visitors and host a varied programme of events and exhibitions throughout the year.

Why join us?

We are looking for a number of high-calibre individuals with a wide range of skills and experience to join our trustee board, either as Chair of Kiplin Hall CIO or as an ordinary Trustee.

The organisation has undergone some restructuring over the last couple of years, with a new leadership team in place and visitor numbers continuing to climb steadily to around 17,500 in 2019. We have a dedicated and skilled team of over 160 volunteers who make an unparalleled contribution to the organisation. Building on the excellent restoration work in the Hall over the last 20 years, and the gardens over the last 10, significant new opportunities to develop the visitor offer, attract funding and enhance the public impact of the organisation have been identified.

This is an exciting time for the right individual to take up the role of Chair with the opportunity to play significant role in shaping the strategic direction of Kiplin ensuring that we operate sustainably and fulfil our potential as a locally, regionally and nationally significant historic house.
