Join our ‘pop-up catch club’ to join in some Jacobean-style singing, mirth, and merriment. No experience necessary and all ages welcome! In the 16th and 17th centuries, rounds and catches (think songs like ‘London’s Burning’ or ‘Frère Jacques’) were not just children’s songs, but also a popular form of social recreation for adults, especially among the working classes. These short and catchy songs got everyone singing together to express the joys of drink, song, and good fellowship. Creating harmony out of short and simple melodies, catches were quick to learn and satisfying to sing. Our singer-facilitators will be there to help get everyone singing as we try some Jacobean favourites (including some still sung today) as well as songs from Kiplin Hall’s collections. Stop by for 10 minutes to learn some songs and experience some early modern fun.
