We are excited to welcome Eliza Willis who joins Kiplin on a university work placement from Northumbria University, Newcastle. Eliza is currently in the final year of a Media and Journalism degree and will be here at Kiplin over the next 5 weeks to get hands on experience with marketing and public relations.

Eliza is already very familiar with Kiplin, having worked here as a waitress for nearly 3 years. Eliza said: “I previously worked in the old tearoom, and I am very much looking forward to working in the new café alongside my lovely colleagues and seeing all the regulars once again.”

Eliza had this to say about her placement: “I’m really looking forward to being back at Kiplin in a new capacity and learning more about the marketing and public relations that are involved with this industry and gaining new skills.”

Some of Eliza’s hobbies include reading and baking. “I’ve always loved baking; I find it very therapeutic. I have fond memories of baking with my grandma as child.”

“I’m also a bit of a cinephile, I love films and originally planned to do a degree more tailored towards film and television, however my chosen course was phased out, which is how I ended up doing a degree in Media and Journalism. I like to think this was for the best, as my degree has helped me to engage with different aspects of media which I otherwise might not of had the chance to. And it’s helped with my confidence.”

We asked Eliza what her favourite thing on the menu is. “I’m biased because I work here and I’ve eaten the food, (which is great by the way!) but the fruit scone is a personal favourite.”
