Milestones hot on the heals

Director of Kiplin Hall and Garden, James Etherington, runs 400km during 2025 in celebration of the 400th Anniversary of the Hall.

Raising over £600 in sponsorship in aid of Kiplin Hall Trust James completed his personal challenge on Saturday 29th November, running the last 5km at Kiplin Hall during a MaD Races event.  James ran the last 5km wearing a faux 17th Century gentleman’s costume. A comic nod to George Calvert, first owner of Kiplin Hall, Baron Baltimore and founder of Maryland USA. Not something he recommends to others, but it does make for a nice photo!

James reached his running milestone just days after the museum welcomed its 40,000th visitor for the year. A record-breaking figure and the icing on the cake for a spectacular year.

James expressed his thanks to those who’ve supported him “A huge thank you to those who’ve sponsored me and my friends for training with me during the year. It was a satisfying challenge, seeing the total distance accumulate over time. I’m very glad to have clocked the last 5km at Kiplin itself. A really fitting end to an incredible year.”

Kiplin Hall and Gardens is now closed for 2025 while maintenance work is undertaken behind the scenes. Reopening on Friday 6th February, 6 days a week closed on Thursdays, until 26th November 2026. Visit www.kiplinhall.co.uk for more information.
